getting bitpim to talk to a palm pre

Hi I just downloaded bitpim and am totally lost when trying to get it to
find my palm pre. I've read through the troubleshooting several times and
have no idea where to start.

Troubleshooting says i MUST use device drivers on windows. i know what a
driver is but have no idea what this is telling me. do i need a particular
driver for my phone?

any help is greatly appreciated
