Loading BitPim on new machine

BitPim version 1.0.7
OS: Windows 7
Phone: LG-VX5600
Cable: USB cable provided with phone.

I have been using Bitpim for a couple of years to download pictures from my
cell phone (I have one of those Accolade LG-VX5600 phones that the service
provider wants you to mail/text the pics to yourself at 25 cents per pic).
My old laptop worked fine, but has become so old and slow that I upgraded.

I bought a new laptop.  I got out the old one to get all the settings for
the new one but after repeated trys, I cannot get Bitpim to run on my new
laptop. I get an error message declaring the MSVCP71.dll is missing (not a
typo). It says to reinstall. I did, multiple times and get the same message
at run time. I looked at my old laptop and there is not file by that name.

What have I done wrong? I would love to get it running on the new machine
as it is the one I carry.
