Different kannel behaviour compiling Kannel against different versions of libxml

Dear Devel List,

Currently I run cvs Kannel against redhat libxml2-2.4.2-1 (or 20402 as 
Kannel identifies it). I have noticed that Kannel is very picky over the 
wml you pass it - namely I get errors like:

2002-02-27 11:02:26 [8] ERROR: WML compiler: Compiling error: libxml 
returned a NULL pointer

when other gateways (Infinite WAP Gateway v2.0 (20010531) with WTLS) 
return the same page with no errors. Unfortunately I can't include the 
wml page in question as it is generated dynamically from tomcat.

My question is: Is there a preferred version of libxml to use in 
conjunction with Kannel, or has anyone else observed this or similar 
behaviour using Kannel-cvs (27th February 2002) and libxml2 2.4.2-1 
(Redhat 7.2 default libxml2)?
