SMPP peering

Is it possible to use Kannel as a bridge between an SMPP connection - for 
example binding into the SMPP gateway on one port, and acting as a 
receiver for SMPP on another port?

I think (currently) that the SMPP connection process tries to connect to a 
listening socket and breaks if it doesn't exist, rather than in this case 
potentially falling back to being the listening socket if it can't 
activly connect to a remote server.

Any one got a valid opinion on the best way of working with this?
