Current Kannel with bearerbox being a router and smsbox being a
processing entity which can be load shared, Kannel can easily handle
houndrets of messages per seconds on inexpensive hardware. Our tests
running kannel in a loop over a SMPP to HTTP emulator which feeded the
messages back to kannel (not optimized at all I must say) has shown
that it can easily handle 400msg/sec.

Good enough?
If you need more preformance, just run kannel in parallel on multiple
machines.
