Ok, sounds reasonable for me. I didn't know that fact for Germany. So I can resubmit the patch, keeping the "retry" directive, with "no" as default (as it is actually), and fix the behaviour with a "reconnect-delay" directive, with a 10 seconds default. Is this ok? Then we could mark it as a compatibility-breaker in the next release. I think there are much more people using it over direct tcp links than dialup ones. This is definitively wrong for users in Germany as the german carriers don't allow connectivity over the internet usually but only over 2Mbps permanent leased line (very expensive) or ISDN dial-on demand dialup to a private network. I think we simply should fix the existing behaviour instead of inventing another new one.
