actually this is not the case. I have seen this problem with 3 different
smsc's, and not only smpp. and even if other characters are allright, smsc's
tend to suppose to get @ not as 0x00 but as something else .. and the same
in incoming messages ..

but generally - yes - patching charset.c in this respect is not the right
thing to do ..
