I would thus recommend to do a ./configure --prefix=/usr while compiling libxml. Another thing you might have to do on some systems is to make a symbolic link from /usr/include/libxml to point to /usr/include/libxml2/libxml. Shouldnt really be a problem on RedHat 7 as I've tried on multiple versions but I always compiled libxml on it myself.
