Q: How to extract SMPP gateway code from Kannel

Hi,
I am developing an SMPP gateway for an application where the
application should receive SMS-s as speech/wave files.
The SMPP gateway and the application communicate thru a CORBA
interface.
Platform for my SMPP gateway: SUN Solaris.

I should decide very fast whether it is applicable to cut the
SMPP handler code from the existing Kannel source. I do not need WAP.
Applicable if the necessary effort is less then cca. 1 week). 

I'm new in Kannel, but not in telecomm protocols.

So my questinos:
- Is Kannel so designed that some/one of its modules can be used
"stand-alone", ie. it is easy to extract?
- Which of the modules are relevant for such SMPP gateway?
- Can you give me an estimation on necessary efforts?
- If Kannel seems to be not my case, could you suggest me other 
Open Source SMPP implementation?
