have you tried to call a real URL (ie. http://wap.foobar.com) ?

The Openwave beasts usually address first the secial URL "device:home"
which can be mapped inside Kannel's configuration to a real URL. But
if you did not set this you may have got an error by the gateway.

I have been running the UP.SDK and they worked.
