Re: SS7 box

Forget OpenSS7. There's only one guy doing OpenSS7 and thats brian. He 
doesnt move without money. Why MAP is on the list I dont know. Its far 
from being completed. It hasn't even started off. GSM-MAP is a pretty 
big layer.

We have built an SMSC on top of a commercially available SS7 hardware. 
It took us a few months full time for two people to create it and we 
are still adding features today. If we would have had to write our own 
GSM-MAP, TCAP and maybe even SCCP layers, it would have taken us years 
of development. There's a good reason why commercially available SMSC's 
are not cheap (but they don't have to cost millions neither but thats 
another story).

To summarize:
a) if you want SS7 box, there's no problem you connect a SMSC to the 
bearerbox and you got your SS7 on it that way
b) for SS7 there's more to than just write a driver. There has to be a 
database who takes care of retrying, storing etc. A SMSC is as complex 
as a SMTP mailserver. But in comparison to SMTP you can not forward to 
the next store & forward box, you have to deliver directly to the 
client who's phone is very often not reachable.
c) SS7 is a pretty complex matter. It is a ITU standard and those who 
have read ITU standards and RFC's too, they know how simple RFC's are 
to understand and how billions of options ITU standards have.
d) supposingly you have SS7, then you spent enough financial resources 
already that you can afford to buy an SMSC (for example our 
Message!Mover SMSC *wink*)). SS7 is very hard to get, even as an 
operator some times.
