so this is specific to have multiple SMPP connections. The same
behaviour can not been reproduced with fake smsc connections?

the IO change to 64 bit structures should not have such an CPU
utalization impact. But I see that Thomas Paff has "fixed many pthread
errors". This is obiously currently the only pience of component that
makes Cygwin "unreliable" in some sence.

I'll try to figure out. But I'd like to request you to have a
non-testing version of Cygwin, ie. 1.5.3 running Kannel to see if this
problem is really caused by the upgrade to a more recent Cygwin
version.
