some notes that are not specific to the patch itself:

according to autobook-1.3 the configure switches should have the
following semantics:

  --with-foobar: include support of the *external* foobar
component/library
  
  --enable-foobar: include support of the *internal* foobar component

hence I'd like to switch this to --with-mysql. Which of course brings
us again to the problem that this switch is already used and defines
mysql instllation location. We should then use --with-mysql-dir to
allow users to locate the mysql installation if it is installed at a
foobar place.
