How to use the error codes?

The Error codes are very useful as they can tell you why a SMS has not been
delivered.
How do you extract them from the Kannel DLR without manually extracting them
from the access.log?
I have a requirement to extract the error code such as err:000, as each SMS
is delivered. Has any one achieved this and can give advise?
