in my case the flags CFLAGS="-ggdb -rdynamic -O0" helped, perhaps your
kannel gets stripped? 
 file /bin/bash
 /bin/bash: ELF 32-bit LSB executable, Intel 80386, version 1 (SYSV),
 for GNU/Linux 2.2.0, dynamically linked (uses shared libs), stripped
maybe you need to make clean before?
or you might need a development libc, compiled with debugging
information?
