I'm +1 for having it as an OPTIONAL feature either as config param or
compile flag but turned off by default.
As you said, it might break automatic parsing and I also have found it
annoying when reading log files. (That's why I have used this patch only for
a few days while troubleshooting the infamous throughput issue and then
switched back to seconds resolution.)
