now sure what the url_redirect here is, obviously some regex pattern mangling 
the URL that squid is about to resolve and service.

Generally speaking, you need to ensure that Kannel as WAP 1.2.1 gateway is 
"prefixed" in front of squid. So all WSP/WTP datagrams go as HTTP client 
requests from wapbox to the squid daemon. The squid does the callback to the 
remote HTTP server, delivers to wapbox, and wapbox transcodes again to WSP/WTP 
datagrams to be delivered via bearerbox to the WAP 1.2.1 phones.
