Just for reference:

MacPorts (former DarwinPorts) is an Open Source project that provides
Mac OSX ports for a lot (5000+) of Linux packages and libraries. It
provides a package manager similar to dpkg and all packages are
installed on /opt/local by default.

I don't know how many people out there are using packages from
MacPorts, but I can tell that I'm using my share: for Kannel:
postgresql83, pcre, sqlite2 and sdb for example.

Regards,

Alejandro
