Are the any interest for an Android SMSC?

Hi I have been lurking around kannel.org for some years to make sure the project are still alive but it still seem to be kicking!?! :-D I used Kannel several years ago with great success and was wondering if anyone are interested in making an Android app service which would enable Kannel to use an (read: any) Android phone as an sms modem? I am not completely sure how to get the data through USB from Kannel to the Android phone but I am pretty confident I can create an Android app service which can send and receive sms'!
