kannel runs without any issues on FreeBSD and Darwin (OS X) which is derived from FreeBSD.
The errors you see in the log basically mean your sockent connection drops. This can be a HTTP/1.1 session which closes after timeout or a SMPP connection which disconnects due to being idle.

So nothing wrong so far.
