If the number works than that's the right number to use. The operator 
can use the same number as it uses for the smsc but at least mine 
doesn't use the same number.

I usualy dial a number what I believe to be the smsc with the phone on 
my desk and if its a modem that responds then it might be the right 
number to use.

I haven't searched but I believe there are lists in the internet that 
provide the numbers where you can send your sms. You have to know what 
provider you sms destination uses. I wonder when in the future people 
can move beteen operators and keeping their number how this will work.

When the connection is made the message is delivered at the smsc, if it 
will make it to the celphone you specified is not known to sms_client, 
it only knows the smsc has accepted the message.
