add-ons ate the URI in my status bar!

aloha! how does one set a plug-in to NOT take up space in the status bar, so that one can review the status line for the URI of the link/item with focus? i'm willing to give up some space to foxclocks, because foxclocks rocks -- both in and of itself as an add-on, and in its exemplary choice of display options -- but i don't need the iconic clutter that keeps me from being able to query the status line for the URI of the link/item with focus no matter how many objects clutter my status line, i should still be able to have my screen reader read the full URI when the status line is queried, even if -- visually -- the URI is truncated or is forced off the status line by add-on/plug-in status bar hogs there should be a way for the user to be able to preserve the status line for URI exposition and a default add-on/plug-in requirement that shortcuts or icons will not be added to the status line except upon receipt of explicit user input the multiple toolbar model is what i'm after for the status line in firefox - i can turn on toolbars or turn them off, and they don't interfere with the location field (the addressbar, i think is its technical name); the same should be true for any add-on or plug-in distributed via any mozilla fora -- a user should be able to control whether or not to add items to the status line... either that, or i need someone to hack me a plugin that moves statusbar icons to a XUL toolbar or (better yet) a menu item... speaking of multiple toolbars, there should be a native (that is, firefox UI provided) means of accessing multiple toolbars from the keyboard -- or, at least, the ability for a user to set or invoke one? gregory. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ACQUAINTANCE, n.
