If this has never been filed as an enhancement request, it's  
certainly only because it is just totally obvious.
It has certainly been mentioned here in the list. I myself referred  
to it at least twice.
My guess is that everybody has just been patiently sitting and  
thinking "They'll get around to it."
Personally, I thought this issue was tied to the equivalent feature  
in Firefox, which, if I recall correctly, was to be included with FF2  
and is now slated for FF3, using a lightweight database (SQLite?) for  
bookmark storage.
It is definitely a feature I have been most looking forward to, as,  
like I said, it is just so obvious.
