This is correct.  You either need to use libprldap (which is what I 
would recommend) or install your own I/O callback functions that use 
non-blocking sockets.  For libprldap, you can set the 
PRLDAP_OPT_IO_MAX_TIMEOUT option to limit the time the library will wait 
for I/O operations to finish.
