there is still interest. there are two major problems actually
getting it done, outside talking and planning that is, one is
committing resources to it and two getting it into Java. the
first one is question of money while the second is of time. we
do need a modern and decent out of the box LDAP API for Java,
there is no question about that. right now we have some home
brew internal API inside OpenDS so if we cant afford to start
from scratch we might be able to clean up and isolate most of
useful client side functionality, maybe refactor it for more
user friendly usage, and make some public API out of that. it
is just an idea for now.
