Nvu was written by a former netscape developer of Netscape Composer with 
monetary support from Linspire.
The Linspire support has ceased as well as active development of Nvu, 
leading to the rise of Kompozer as an independent effort to fix some 
problems in Nvu.

The main developper of Nvu is now starting to work on a new editor 
project, temptatively named Mozilla Composer (M/C), with support from 
MoFo (the right to use the name, the MoFo cvs repository, some manpower, 
and maybe more now or in the future but AFAIK not made public as of 
now). It will be based on the most up to date mozilla platform 
technologie (Xulrunner, Mozilla 1.9, etc.). To adapt Nvu to use that was 
just too much work, therefore the choice to start again, but certainly 
reusing all the lessons learned developing Nvu.
