problem compiling gtk with xft

Hello I'm using suse 8.1, and want xft, so I am compiling the redhat 8 
xft src rpm.  I had to add xft to pkg-config (it wasn't in suse's 
pkg-config).  I get an error however during compile, and it appears to 
be somewhere in the gtk portion.  Here's the output of the compile.  By 
the way it's a gcc 3 compiler.
