If MinGW is just gcc, why would it produce errors, whereas compiling 
with gcc on Linux and Mac OS X doesn't produce those errors?  Oh well...

I haven't tested with MinGW and I don't have the time to do so now.  But 
if you are willing to help find the necessary casts, I can get those 
changes checked in.  Just open a new bug on JavaXPCOM (formerly 
Javaconnect); see
