I am also seeking the same thing. I am working some with JavaXPCOM right now, but you also might want to look at webclient. Ed Burns is investigating updating it to use JavaXPCOM. I am personally waiting to use that once it is ready. It is a pure java solution with a alot of framework around gecko that you may be wanting to write yourself. --Iran.
