Java for Mac OS X 10.4, Release 5 or newer is what's needed to run with a 1.5 jre. Unfortunately I'm not sure at what point this jre fix would have been added to their 1.6 jre. If you want to be sure that you have the fix then you can get the Java for Mac OS X 10.4, Release 5 release from http://connect.apple.com/ (ADC, free registration required).
