Howto use venkman for dummies please?

I'm pretty much frustrated with JS and Firefox. I have some webpages written for IE and trying to make them Firefox compatible. The problems start with Firefox not showing error messages. He simply swallows the JS silently. It just doesn't work, not even a "<body onload='alert()'>" is working and he doesn't tell me why... There is JS that works, but if there is one error, the engine seems to shut down completely and silently. So I tried Venkman, but I can't figure out how to get any useful info out of it. He always jumps into files like "button.xml", "browser.xml" or "popup.xml", but never shows my actual code or something... You see that I'm so helplessly lost that I cannot even give you a good problem description. Please help! Albert
