Status of profiler usage?

Perused the old
gmane.comp.mozilla.devel.jsdebugger<http://news.gmane.org/gmane.comp.mozilla.devel.jsdebugger>archives,
then read through the archives of this list... about what I
expected in terms of the overwhelming debugger:profiler ratio of
questions... does that imply a similar ratio of use and interest? I'd love
to hear from people who use the profiling part: what they're doing with
Venkman's profiling, what their experiences are, any interesting revelations
uncovered, etc. I'd be happy to receive that info personally; I can
summarize back to the list if there is interest.

2003-06-19 to 06-24 timeframe ... apparently back before Venkman produced
separate data for functions-along vs. functions-including-all-descendants
(is there a universal term for this distinction?). I think at that time
there was some interest in having Venkman generate profiling information for
consumption by other viewers potentially. That's an area I have some
interest in. I'm a committer on the Eclipse TPTP (Test and Performance Tools
Platform) project, and I'd love to see if I could at a minimum get Venkman
output displayable via our trace-profile capabilities, with a stretch goal
of seeing what I can do to move towards more complete integration of Venkman
into Eclipse overall ... the problem there, of course, is the diversity of
browsers/JSinterpreters/environments/etc., together with determining whether
there is even a need for such integration. If forced to take a wild guess,
I'd speculate that Javascript usage will continue to rise, and that at some
point we'll see real critical mass surrounding the need for profiling
capabilites to support that usage... but I'd really like to hear from others
as to what they're experiences/expectations are, and whether they see
alternatives (other similar project ideas, cooperation occuring with other
IDEs, etc.) ... after all, no need to reinvent yet another wheel.
