Can't set up mail account for Netscape 7.01

I'm running OS 9.1 on my Powerbook, if that matter.
I deleted the account I tried to set up originally in accordance
with Netscape's instructions and tried "Add Account" but when
I get to the incoming mail server it rejects popd.ix.netcom.com
and insists that I enter a "valid server address".
What gives? These settings work fine in Netscape 4.79 Messenger?
(BTW, I boot from a Jaz disk when using Netscape 7, so the
two are not on the same boot device)
