But that STILL doesn't answer either of the above questions.

If the answer to #1 is 'different', then I'm good to go.
(I can test this myself just by saving my existing Suite
profile and then seeing where SeaMonkey goes by default.)

Otherwise, question 2 remains.  How do I make an icon which
invokes SM and specifies a profile as one does in Windows when
one adds a profile switch to the Target in the shortcut's
properties?

I think I may have found an answer at

which describes how to invoke Mozilla with the -mail switch
so as to have a clickable Moz Mail icon.   Haven't had a chance
to try it yet.   (And need to figure out what SM binary would be
best to download.  I don't think I've seen any pointers to 1.8
branch builds for OS X, which I take it would be the 1.0
candidates.  Maybe I'll take a stab at building it myself.  Now
where did I place those round tuits...)
