I can't think of anywhere else to look. I noticed the same behavior with Thunderbird (see post in this newsgroup on Feb 5). The fact that system preferences are not taken into account is one thing but can be undestood as Firebird / Thunderbird claim to be platform independent and rely on their own preferences. More deeply, it seems that Thunderbird / Firbird are unable to use Mac OS X application "bundles". I posted a bug on this issue. <http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=232220> You might vote for it :).
