Creating a new profile fixed the problem.
Particularly, creating a new profile and copying its default bookmarks 
to my existing profile... and more particularly, I surgically 
implanted my bookmark entries into the new default bookmark file (via 
an html editor) and now it works.

Apparently in the my original bookmarks some tag was missing or 
something (I suspect during an "import" operation; which maybe a bug 
in itself if import corrupts the bookmarks).
