What does "Roaming Access" look at to determine if profiles have changed?

I'm having a mild problem with Mozilla's new (and very useful) roaming profiles feature (called "Roaming User" in Moz preferences). First off, I'm running Mac OS X 10.3.7 with Mozilla 1.8 alpha 5 (1.8a5) My mild problem is, sometimes when I startup Mozilla, I get a message that my profile data seems to have changed since Roaming User data (exported profile data) was last saved in a local file (when Moz last exited). But I know for a fact that all I did was archive the exported Roaming User data. So I'm researching this, doing various "ls -lRa" commands, but it would be easier if I knew what Moz looks for when deciding if my profile data has been updated since Roaming User data was last saved. Also, are there any existing bugzilla bugs that exist for this? I'm searching for bugzilla bugs, but there are lots of search results and the search engine is running very slowly. Right now bugs 17917 and 147344 seem relevant. Also, I'm using the local file option for the "Roaming User" prefs because when I use the http/ftp options with my baseurl of benslade.com, it says malformed URL. Any pointers on bugzilla bug numbers for this?
