PDF: open with preview file storage

Good day,

When I use firefox 1.0 on OS X 10.3.7 and I open a pdf with preview,
the pdf is saved on my desktop.  After a long browsing session, my
desktop is filled with lots of temporary files.

How can I store these "open with" files somewhere other than
Desktop?  They are not stored in browser.download.dir.
