Howto copy a Thunderbird profile from Windows to MacOSX

Hello!

I want to transfer my Thunderbird profile (including mails and news)
from Windows to Mac OSX. 

My first choice was to copy the profile. It works, I see my mails and
news folders, but in the MacOSX Thunderbird, the menu-selektion for
Preferences and Quit are gone from the Extra and File menu, but did
not arrived at the "Thunderbird" menu.
