Opening menu in Firefox/Camino

If I open the menu in Firefox (for example, Bookmarks), the application seems to hang: any page that's loading in that instant pauses, the complete gui (except the menus) freezes. It even seems that any ongoing download pauses. When one closes the menu, it all resumes, animations start moving again, and downloads keep downloading. I've noticed this doesn't happen in Camino. Is this a Mac OS X bug? Is there a way to solve it? I'm using Mac OS X 10.3.8 and Firefox 1.0.2. Thanks Alejandro
