Yes, I think you are right.

A small part of the info on mathfontFontFamily.properties in
mathml/fonts/encoding/index.html is still relevant, but it's not
much use because it's swamped by other info that is now obsolete.

I don't know what has happened to the data in mathml/fonts/char/*
(It may have been lost somewhere between the cvs and svn
repositories.), but it doesn't look like that is worth
resurrecting given the different fonts in use now.
