Status about implementing an XPCOM component in java

Hi,

I just wanted to get the current status about when it might be
possible to implement XPCOM components in java (for a xulrunner
application).

Will there be a performance penalty? How does / will performance
compare if a component is implemented in

C++
JavaScript
Java

?
