Eventually I discovered the '-console' command line parameter which 
helped... It showed:-

 > Video driver is snap
 > Unable to enable DIVE
 >
 > Killed by sigsegv

Is there anything I can do to enable DIVE?

Previous versions of Firefox come up OK.
