There's a newer version available that has better font support, though 
it still depends on what you have installed.
Interestingly updating fonts.conf and the files in fonts.conf (or 
editing them) has immediate results, eg open a new tab and the updated 
fonts show

Good to hear. Web standards (or non-standards) are rapidly evolving, 
mostly driven by Chrome with Firefox trying to keep up. Pretty soon 
Firefox will be irrelevent as they've done such a good job of driving 
their users away and once they move to Chrome type add-ons, that'll 
probably be it for Firefox
