Thinking about it:
have you used Theseus to get an overview of what files are actually open 
on your system ?
Theseus->"System"->"General System"->"Open Files"

That will give you a complete systemwide overview of what files are 
open. You can search in the contents and see if only one or multiple 
different instances of XUL.DLL are open. Same goes of course with any 
other DLL.
