I agree, convincing every website to rewrite their detection would be like boiling the ocean. Perhaps a little easier, and better for the environment, but essentially impossible.

As a user though, I would love the option, just the option that existed until very recently, to prevent a website from enumerating plugins. If that causes a website's code to break, it's fine. I see it as a protest of sorts. And of course, more importantly, it makes mass surveillance more expensive. And I mean, protesting and making mass surveillance more expensive, isn't that really all we can do, much of the time?
