[Q] Profile specs/docs?

I am working on a Perl module to backup and restore Mozilla-related 
profiles. There are a few things I'm unsure about. I've found the code a 
bit too complicated to wade through, but cannot find any documentation 
on the profiles.  Are there any specs/docs for them available?
