The actual sequence was that I noted the problem. Uninstalled netscape 
and mozilla. reinstalled netscape. noted the problem and reinstall 
mozilla. the problem still existed. I thought that I might have a 
registry problem and I pulled out the "Incontrol 5" file that tracked 
the initial installs and deleted the inserted keys on that list that 
were for netscape and mozilla. Using regedit. and reinstalled.

My thinking was that the installer would then put in the correct 
registry information. This delete all of HKLM/software/netscape and 
mozilla.org.

When i installed mozilla 1.2b the installer added 
HKLM/software/mozilla.org. and browser et al works. but the profile 
manager still cannot remember a profile
