Does Mozilla Drop Profiles?

Okay.
I'm a regular full-time Netscape user (currently Nettie 7) and one 
problem I regularly face is when it crashes/hangs and erases the default 
profile preferences.  This causes complete loss of the mail system until 
I can restore to my default profile directory and all my settings (yes, 
I finally figured out how to do all this, and protect myself with layers 
of backups, partitions, etc. ;o) ).

As Netscape has Mozilla in its core I'm wondering if Mozilla users out 
there face the same problem; because I'm proposing to write an article 
about my experiences and how to solve/avoid them.

Obviously I don't want to blame Mozilla if it's purely a Netscape 
problem, and I'm not certain about the distinguishing features between 
the two.
