7.1 menu text, how is it enlarged

Hi- I just installed 7.1 on my win2000 laptop, and I can barely see the menu text as the font size is at best "4". What settings change this? I have the same problem addressing e-mails....... I can barely see what I type, although the messages themselves are fine. Thanks for any help- Anton
